What I Can Do for You

My work is driven by curiosity and practice, exploring the ways artistic expression and technical expertise can come together to create interesting things. My background is in art and engineering, and projects that combine electrical and mechanical function with aesthetics and creativity are my specialty.

I have worked extensively in the areas below, but if there is something that isn’t listed here, but seems like it may be up my alley, please reach out! I have experience with a lot of niche things, and I love to help—and I love an email with an interesting challenge.

Electromechanical Repairs

I have worked with electronics and mechanisms from a (possibly too) early age; I am passionate about learning how and why things work. Over years of study and practice, I can repair a wide variety of objects, from common appliances and computers to more specific objects like an antique light switch or a power chair.

I learn how to diagnose and fix new problems quickly—so if you have a weird object that needs repair, I would be happy to solve that puzzle!

Technical Consulting

One of my favorite things to do. I've helped artists and inventors figure out how to make and prototype their ideas in the real world.

I work with artists to add mechanical and electric elements to their work. Artists bring their vision and the things they have tried so far to execute it, and I provide assistance anywhere from guidance to hands-on help making the piece.

For inventors, I demonstrate drafting, 3D modeling, and physical prototyping tools.

With all consulting clients, I work collaboratively with them to get from initial idea to completed project, with both technical support and enthusiasm for helping bring their visions to life.

Unique Functional Props

Escape rooms, plays, and other performances or puzzles may use props that are challenging to make without technical expertise.

I can build or help build props that do interesting and unexpected things for a unique audience experience. Similar to visual/tactile artist consulting, I meet with clients to talk about their vision, then provide either guidance or create the prop myself, depending on the request.

Personalized Accessible Peripherals

I believe that tools to make the world reachable should be affordable. Working independently and creatively, I have been able to make adjustments to existing devices, repair aids, and create new accessible tools at a reasonable cost.

Some examples of my work include:

  • Custom keyboards and mice, such as a foot-operated mouse or a single-handed keyboard
  • Fixing existing accessibility devices that would otherwise have that “medical device premium”. For example, fixing worn out switches on in-home medical equipment
  • 3D printed supports such as:
    • Support pieces for a hand joints, to help with carrying things
    • Door adapters to make turning doorknobs easier
  • Making appliance touchscreens tactile for people with vision impairments
